What is Fumed Hardwood?

Fumed hardwood refers to a specific treatment process used to enhance the color and grain of wood flooring. The process involves exposing the wood to ammonia fumes in a controlled environment. The fumes react with the tannins in the wood, causing a chemical reaction that darkens the wood's color all the way through, rather than just on the surface. This results in a rich, deep color that penetrates the wood, highlighting its natural grain patterns and adding a unique, aged look to the flooring. Fumed hardwood is known for its durability and ability to maintain its color over time.
